Answer by Socialism = FAIL
Pretty much just the police, let them handle it.
Or make another account on craigs list, offer another xbox or something like that for sale, see if he responds to it, and then when you meet up again with him, be ready, and with friends.

this is a job for the police. did you consider that he may have left fingerprints on it? did you consider that the police, in a few minutes, can trace all the calls made on it? you’re angry because they took fifteen minutes to get to you the first time so you x them out of the picture?

You say “its my job to handle my business” but enforcing the law is NOT your business, that is the business of Law Enforcement (see how that name says it all). Trying to find this guy is illegal vigilanteeism and you can go to jail for that. Cops take a dim view of someone doing their job for them.

Well first off, if the story really happened like that, thats aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. A VERY serious offense. Second, the wireless phone bill would have had his number anyways, so you have more then just a text msg. Last, thats something the police should handle. If you intend to act like a bull and handle your own business, then you run the risk of someone getting killed. You gotta ask if the value of the 360 is really worth it. If the police dont want to touch it, and you insist, u could always pay to trace the number. Im sure he wouldnt enjoy seeing his car burn.

Unfortunately, this kind of tracking cannot be done today… Believe me, it cannot be done. Unless you know someone at the CIA or FBI, you’re S.O.L. The only way to to track a cell phone is to have contact with the phone you want to track (spouse, boyfriend, girlfriend, kids etc) and set it up for tracking.

You would have to take the cellphone without the owner’s knowledge and drop a tracking chip or tracking software into the cell phone. Once the cell phone has been chipped or software loaded, it can then be tracked through an internet site that will tell you where the phone is traveling in real-time. If the person holding the phone is on the move, you will see it on the site map. If the person is stationary you will see that also.

These are the only realistic ways to track a cellphone today. I would recommend making a record of the phone number and wait until developments are made that will allow you to track just on the cellphone number alone. Now, when this development finally does happen, it will probably cost a lot to track a number because it will either be a costly software, or a costly service.

I own a blackberry and I have loaded it with a software called “InstaMapper” which allows me to see where my phone is all the time. I loaded this free software and I did it just in case my blackberry cellphone ever gets stolen or if I lose it, or if I someday want to plant it inside a place (ie. a car) that I want to track. So far, I have no need to track my spouse, or anyone I know.

That;s the best I can offer friend. I would probably write the whole thing off as a bad experience and move on. However, if you really feel the need to go after this S.O.B., then save the cellphone number until a time when on-line tracking becomes easier ot do.
